The Institute

Instituto Cordilheira’s fundamental aim is to work in defense of the environment, of cultural heritage, of the rights of nature, of citizenship, of human rights, and of the promotion of collective, diffuse, and homogeneous individual goods and rights, while considering new paradigms in times of climate emergency.

IC works towards a new economy and society that value nature, ecosystem regeneration, investment in science, technology, and ancestral practices of indigenous peoples with a view to overcome the mineral dependency, and for a justice system that truly fulfills its role in ensuring that violations stop, damages are fully repaired, and perpetrators are held effectively accountable.

Mission

To actively engage, use technical expertise and a firm approach to tackle the dominance of the mining industry and its countless impacts, damages, and threats to mountain ranges, water resources, people, communities, and to rights, connecting joint initiatives that bring together and strengthen leaders and groups who defend the territories affected, closely following the struggles and providing visibility to problems and achievements, while increasingly enabling the exchange of experiences and mutual help.
